Post Rock District 4-H Day held February 8th in Beloit

by Aliesa Woods, 4-H Youth Development Agent

The Post Rock District held their annual 4-H Day on Saturday, February 8th at the Methodist Church in Beloit. This was the first of two 4-H Club Days held this year within the District, providing an opportunity for 4-H members to showcase their projects, interests and talents by presenting project talks, demonstrations and illustrated talks, readings, skits, dances, creative dramatics, instrumental and vocal performances, and model meetings.

At 4-H Day, the 4-H member(s) or club will give their presentation or performance in front of a judge and small audience. All events are judged and the 4-H member receives a ribbon along with both positive and helpful comments that are given by the judge. Members can receive a purple, blue, red or white ribbon. One 4-Her in each category was recognized with the Outstanding Presentation Sensation (OPS) award.

Throughout the morning 4-H members also had the opportunity to test their knowledge by participating in Photography and Life Skills judging contests. In judging, a scenario and varying degrees of related choices are listed. Judging is both a competitive and learning event, exposing youth to a wide variety of life skills including interpersonal relationships, photography, cooking, nutrition, clothing, finances, gardening, entomology, and animals.

The second Post Rock District 4-H Day will be held on March 10th in Smith Center. For information on how to join 4-H visit www.joinkansas4-H.org
