Confidence Grows Here
Aliesa Woods - 4-H Youth Development Agent
Confidence was in the air at the first of the two Post Rock District annual 4-H Days which was held on Saturday, February 11, at the First United Methodist Church in Beloit. This annual event was first named Spring Festival and was renamed to County 4-H Day in 1945. Over the years, events have been added to the original model meeting competition. This year’s talents included project talks, illustrated talks, demonstrations, skits, dance, drama, musical instrument solos, vocal solos, and readings. These presentations help 4-H members sharpen their skills in public speaking and performance. Any 4-H member who receives a purple ribbon on a demonstration or illustrated talk, and is age 9 or older, qualifies to give the presentation at the Kansas State Fair. An Outstanding Presentation Sensation (OPS) is the highest award earned and is given to one person in each age group per category.
Throughout the morning 4-H members also had the opportunity to test their knowledge by participating in a 4-H Trivia contest.
The second Post Rock District 4-H Day will be held on March 6th in Osborne. For information on how to join 4-H visit www.joinkansas4-H.org
At 4-H Day, the 4-H member(s) or club will give their presentation or performance in front of a judge and small audience. All events are judged and the 4-H member receives a ribbon along with both positive and helpful comments that are given by the judge. Members can receive a purple, blue, red or white ribbon. An Outstanding Presentation Sensation (OPS) is the highest award earned and is given to one person in each age group per category.
